Patricia Bayley, from the New York City Economic Development Corporation, just told me about a great program called “LatAm to NYC”. The program is hosting delegations of Internet entrepreneurs interested on expanding to and even moving their business to NYC. It is a multiday program that includes networking events, visits to tech companies, meetups, workshops, and panels about law, immigration, and recruiting. It will happen August 6-8th (see brochure below).
I’m highly opinionated here: Silicon Valley is a great place to be as a tech entrepreneur, but NYC is a great place to be as a Latino (NYC is where salsa music was invented!). I’ve seen how the NYC startup scene has matured and continues to grow. I don’t want to run away. I want to stay here.
LatAm to NYC is the result of me helping Patricia promote a similar program called “World to NYC" a few months ago. To our surprise, almost half of the entrepreneurs that attended came from LatAm, many from Colombia! I told Patricia they should have one program focused on LatAm. Fast forward a couple of months and voila! Kudos to Mayor Bloomberg and Patricia for this effort!
For more information on how to apply, go to the program website.
P.S. If I know you and you’d like a personal intro to Patricia to increase your chances of getting accepted, please email me.
